Community Action to Restore Lives (CARL), with funding support from Purposeful, continues to champion the empowerment of girls and young women through the Girls Circle Collective (GCC) Project, which has now evolved into Girls Movement Building Groups. The initiative seeks to strengthen the leadership, agency, and collective action of girls and young women aged 18–30, enabling them to lead advocacy campaigns, community sensitization activities, school talk shows, and other development initiatives within their communities.

As part of this transformative journey, the Tombo Young Female Activist Movement, one of the groups supported by CARL, officially launched a Skills Training Centre on Wednesday, 13th May 2026. The group successfully transitioned from a Girls Circle Collective into a Movement Building Group, demonstrating the growing capacity of young women to lead sustainable community-driven initiatives.

The newly established centre is equipped with five sewing machines and essential materials for gara tie-dyeing and bead-making. The facility has been created to provide girls and young women with practical vocational and entrepreneurial skills, helping them build sustainable livelihoods and become economically self-reliant.

The launch ceremony attracted a wide range of stakeholders, including the Honourable Member of Parliament, representatives from CARL, officials from the Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs, community leaders, and residents of Tombo. The event was held under the inspiring theme, “Lead, Rise, and Inspire,” reflecting the commitment of young women to creating positive change within their communities.

Speaking during the event, stakeholders commended the initiative as a significant step towards promoting women’s economic empowerment, reducing vulnerability, and creating opportunities for girls and young women to realize their full potential.

The Skills Training Centre represents more than just a learning space; it serves as a platform for empowerment, leadership development, and economic resilience. Through initiatives such as this, CARL and Purposeful remain committed to supporting girls and young women to become agents of change, capable of shaping a more inclusive and equitable future for themselves and their communities.

When girls are equipped with skills, supported by their communities, and empowered to lead, they become powerful agents of change who transform not only their own lives but also the future of their communities.
