Since 2011, Community Action to Restore Lives (CARL) has remained committed to building a just, inclusive, and empowered society for women and girls across Sierra Leone. For the past 15 years, CARL has stood at the forefront of community transformation through impactful interventions in women and girls’ empowerment, education, gender equality, leadership, health, child protection, human rights, peacebuilding, livelihood support, and community development.
What started as a bold vision to restore dignity, hope, and opportunity for vulnerable women and girls has today grown into a respected grassroots organization making meaningful and lasting impact across communities in Sierra Leone. Through dedication, resilience, and community-driven approaches, CARL has empowered thousands of women and girls to become leaders, advocates, and changemakers within their families and communities.
As we celebrate this remarkable milestone, we proudly recognize and appreciate all past and present staff members, volunteers, consultants, field officers, management teams, and community facilitators whose passion, sacrifice, commitment, and professionalism have contributed immensely to the mission and vision of the organization. Your efforts have helped transform lives and strengthen communities throughout the years.
We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our donors, supporters, and development partners whose trust, collaboration, and investments have made our work possible. We deeply appreciate the support of UNICEF, UN Women, Trocaire, Irish Aid, Misereor, the European Union (EU), IBIS, Oxfam, Axis, Purposeful, IRC, Plan International, UNDP, government ministries, local authorities, community stakeholders, and many other institutions and partners who have walked this journey with us.
Special appreciation goes to the founders and leadership of CARL whose vision, courage, and determination laid the foundation for an organization that continues to inspire hope and create opportunities for women and girls across Sierra Leone. Their dream of building a just community for women and girls continues to guide and motivate the organization’s work today.
Over the years, CARL’s interventions have contributed to strengthening women’s leadership, promoting girls’ education, addressing gender-based violence, supporting livelihoods, increasing community participation, and creating safe spaces where women and girls can thrive and realize their full potential.
As we reflect on 15 years of service, impact, and transformation, we remain inspired to do more, reach further, and continue advocating for equality, justice, and sustainable development for women and girls across Sierra Leone.
