According to Kathy Calvin, President and CEO of the United Nations Foundation:
“Girls are one of the most powerful forces for change in the world: When their rights are recognized, their needs are met, and their voices are heard, they drive positive change in their families, their communities, and the world.”
This powerful statement reflects the vision and commitment of Community Action to Restore Lives (CARL) in promoting the rights, empowerment, and wellbeing of women and girls across Sierra Leone.
For the past ten years, CARL has remained steadfast in its mission to create opportunities for girls and young women to realize their full potential regardless of their background, social status, or geographical location. Through strategic partnerships and collaborative interventions, the organization has continued to advocate for gender equality, education, leadership, protection, and social justice for vulnerable women and girls.
Over the years, CARL has successfully partnered with several international organizations, development partners, and government institutions including UNICEF, UN Women, Trocaire, Irish Aid, Misereor, the European Union (EU), IBIS, Oxfam, Axis, Purposeful, IRC, Plan International, UNDP, and many others to implement impactful programs that address the challenges facing girls and women in Sierra Leone.
These partnerships have supported initiatives focused on girls’ education, sexual and reproductive health rights, prevention of gender-based violence, women’s leadership, livelihood support, child protection, peacebuilding, and community development. Through these interventions, thousands of girls and women have gained access to knowledge, skills, leadership opportunities, and safe spaces to amplify their voices and contribute meaningfully to society.
At CARL, we believe that investing in girls is investing in the future of communities and nations. When girls are empowered, educated, protected, and given equal opportunities, they become catalysts for sustainable development and positive social transformation.
The impact of our work continues to inspire us to do more. Every empowered girl represents hope, resilience, and the possibility of a brighter future for Sierra Leone.
Community Action to Restore Lives remains committed to building a just, inclusive, and equitable society where women and girls can thrive, lead, and contribute to national development without discrimination or limitation.
